AQUATOP – THE MOST ESTABLISHED FIXED BED SYSTEM

The Aquatop fixed bed by Ammermann is one of the most established fully biological water treatment systems on the market and has already been successfully installed more than 8,000 times.
It is suitable for the treatment of domestic wastewater for 1 to 1,000 population equivalent (p.e.) and has been developed and tested in accordance with the latest guidelines of EN 12566 part 3. It has been approved by the German Building Authority (Deutsches Institut fȕr Bautechnik).

THE FIXED BED SYSTEM

The fixed bed process or submerged bioreactor technology is a system using submerged, aerated plastic bodies to provide the microorganisms the surface they need to form a so-called fixed biological film. The microorganisms in the water colonise the culture media. Due to the nutrients in the water, combined with the aeration of the wastewater, the organisms find ideal living conditions for the treatment of the water. Just like in a stream, treatment occurs naturally without the use of any chemicals.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

The first chamber of the wastewater treatment plant is used for the separation of solids: primary treatment. The pre-treated wastewater then flows without the aid of a feed pump into the second chamber of the wastewater treatment plant: the so-called biology. The fixed bed reactor is located in this chamber. Excess / dead microorganisms are meanwhile flushed with the treated water into the third chamber of the wastewater treatment plant by means of the natural overflow. Here they settle on the bottom and are then transported back into the first chamber by means of a mammoth pump (airlift with no electrical system).Three separate chambers in one or more septic tanks are needed for this treatment procedure: one for pre-treatment, one for the biological treatment and one for the final sedimentation.

If sound, for multi-chamber septic tanks already in place, refitting is often a cost-effective option.

An uncomplicated control system enables settings to be optimised easily. An economy mode is possible to save energy in the holidays.

It can be installed into almost all types of wastewater treatment.
